A sliver of ankle

I've noticed the importance of having a little sliver of ankle showing between the bottom of your pants and shoes. A little styling trick I'll attempt when I'm out of shorts and back into pants. Right now I'm feeling overheated and Humpty Dumpty-esque, and no rolled cuff can make that chic.

P.S. My first Polyvore attempt!

  1. Oh yes!! I never cover my ankles.

  2. I've been doing that just to bring some variation into my usual uniform of jeans, and also after I realised it would save me money as I don't have to actually buy new ankle-length trousers.. I like how to looks more jaunty. It's also quite practical on rainy days.

  4. One of my favourite silhouettes. I also love the bare wrists/cuffed sleeves too.

  5. I'm intrigued that so many of you do this. I guess when you don't have that much skin showing, the little bit that does has impact.

Fleurette No socks then? I remember your outfit posts, but I didn't know you never covered your ankles.

lin Jaunty is the perfect word for it. Just the right effect for summer, too.

kate Ankles and wrists look good revealed. They're the slimmest and most delicate parts of our limbs.

Little Ghost I wasn't thinking about it as a silhouette, but you're right. It does have a distinctiveness.

  6. The exposed ankle almost always looks good on skinny/slim line pants. I've been wearing it for years because I don't like having a break in my pants/jeans, and like you said that sliver of ankle really helps in not getting overheated. It's also fun for showing off socks in the winter. Fun (or neutral) socks + loafers + ankle length jeans are a chilly weather staple.

  7. Ah, such an easy and chic look! I do this with black skinny jeans, but I really like the slim yet slouchy pants you've featured.

  8. Austere Do you think the exposed ankle would look good on skinny pants if you have long feet? I'm always afraid of looking like E.T. Also, I hadn't actually connected that ankles will keep you from overheating, but you're right, it would. Lots of blood vessels right at the ankles.

Rachel I'm very late to the skinny jeans game. I don't have a pair of black ones. Do you have a brand you'd recommend?

  9. I really like this look, and I would say that this is pretty much how I dress all the time, all year long (we have very temperate weather where I live). It makes it easy to never have to worry about hemming your pants to different shoes. Just roll your pants more or less for the desired effect! :) Not sure how far you are in your pregnancy, but I had horrible ankle and leg swelling in my 3rd trimester, so indeed, this was not such a good look for me back then!

  10. I think it would look good with long feet because the eye is drawn up the leg a bit more before it gets cut off by the jean. Maybe just not skin tight jeans that bring more emphasis to the feet?

  11. I love this look and will attempt to do this more often. I love boots (especially ankle boots) and its the perfect way to show them off. Being on the short side (5'3"), I need to be careful to keep the proportions in check. Does anyone have any suggestions for designers who make a great pair of cropped pants/trousers for the height-impaired among us? Am concerned any regular cropped style will just look regular length on me ;)

  12. Such a great styling trick. I must say, I'm a fan. It's just the right amount of sexy without being too much. PS- I have long narrow feet and i don't think it looks funny. Go for it;)

  13. Chic_e, I think it's okay to roll the cuffs to achieve the same look. I think that 5'3" is such a hard height to dress. I'm 5'2" and I find that petite sizes are too short and normal sizes are too long. Alternately, you could always get them altered.

Lindsay K, Ok! I will try as soon as my belly will accommodate my old clothes. I have an old pair of Isabel Marant pants I bought several years ago off Yoox that I plan to stand in for the new, cute pants that I covet from La Garconne and the like.
